T hesecondBEGRunwayRunwasheld during the night between 8 th and 9 th June, organised by the Belgrade Marathon and VINCI Airports Serbia, under the patronage of the City of Belgrade. This unique and unforgettable event was held in an extraordinary atmosphere, with superb music, a reworks display and a water cannon salute. The event included twice as many runners and top competitors from Ser- bia as last time, with around 1,000 recreational runners from the country and the region, as well as all those who enjoy healthy lifestyles and running. This year’s race brought togeth- er a large number of employees of Belgrade NikolaTesla Airport, as well as colleagues from other companies and institutions. Race preparations started at around 11pm, when the runners warmed up in a festival atmosphere and everyone enjoyed the rhythm on a drum, covered by a DJ and saxophone. The race started, as is tradition, at 1:30am, following the departure of the last scheduled ight. A water cannon salute and spectacular reworks signalled the start, while the race was followed by attractive helicopter ights. The length of the runway is ve kilometres and the participants ran three laps, partly on the runway and partly on the taxiway. The men’s competition saw the title won in last year’s rst edition of this event defend- ed by Nemanja Cerovac, a top-ranked dis- tance-runner and cross-racer, and long-time Serbian national team member, who record- ed a nal time of 17:34 minutes. Coming sec- ond was London Olympian Darko Živano- vić, with a time of 17:46 minutes, and taking third place was Miloš Raičević, with a time of 18:37 minutes. Teodora Simović, a participant in the marathon discipline at the World Champi- onships in London, won the women’s com- petition with a time of 18:25 minutes. Nevena Jovanović, champion of Serbia over 10,000 metres, took second place with a time of 19:41 minutes, while third-placed Nora Trklja, one of Serbia’s top marathon runners over the past few years, nished with a time of 20:56 minutes. The winners of both competitions were greeted with a traditional water can- non salute. The top event organisation skills of the sta of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport were proven once again, with the clean-up oper- ation leaving nothing to indicate that a race had been held on the runway just three hours before the start of the morning peak. After another spectacular event, we be- lieve that this unique and now traditional race in the region will contribute to further promoting Belgrade as a tourist destination, as well as Nikola Tesla Airport Belgrade.
