Postavka obuhvata i predmete iz legata Ljubiše Samardžića, Pavla Vuisića, Milene Dravić, Dragana Nikolića, Živojina Pavlo- vića i drugih značajnih filmskih umetni-

ers cinématographe camera from 1896, the rst lm camera of the Pathé brothers dating back to 1903... There’s also one of Charlie Chaplin’s walk- ing sticks, but also Karl Malden... “Among the legacies we preserve in the lega- cy room is that of Karl Malden, which we opened at the initiative of our friend DanTana in 2016, with Karl Malden’s granddaughter in attendance. A bust of him was included two years later, because that was our wish at the Cinematheque, but again al- so that of Dan Tana and conductor Zubin Meh- ta, who has great respect for the work of our Os- car-winner. And now, as we speak, Belgraders and foreign tourists take photographs of themselves withMaldeninfrontofthecinematheque,”reveals Pantelić, adding that the story of Charlie Chap- lin’s cane exhibited in a special place is intimate. “That story has all the attributes of an intimate story when it comes to the donor of the cane. At the insistence of the benefactor, it remains inti- mate. The stick was a personal possession of the great Charlie Chaplin that was acquired from his daughter, who gave it to one of our lm workers, and this Cinematheque.” The exhibition also includes items from the legacies of Ljubiša Samardžić, Pavle Vuisić, Milena Dravić, Dragan Nikolić, Živojin Pavlović and oth- er notable lm artists. Alongside the aforemen- tioned items from the 19 th and early 20 th centu- ries, part of the exhibition is dedicated to early cinemas and pioneers of lm in this region, with special emphasis on the rst Serbian feature lm, Karađorđe (1911). Apart from detailing the beginnings, this lm museum also accentuates the worldwide depar- tures of our lm artists before the Great War, the Second World War and some of the most interest- ing events in Serbian lm, such as the black wave, which still represents the most interesting phase of Yugoslav lm in the eyes of foreign experts, to the Prague school and the great successes of our lmmakers, such as Emir Kusturica, to Avala Film, where major world co-productions were shot. “Projections with a 35mm projector are a rar- ity today, while we are also among the few audi- toriums that still play projections on cellulose ni- trate tape.
