Tog dana glumica Merilin Monro pronađena je mr- tva u svom domu u Los Anđelesu. GOODBYE, MARILYN Actress and model Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her Los Angeles home on 5 th August, 1962. After a brief investigation, Los Angeles police concluded that her death was “caused by a self-administered overdose of sedative drugs and that the mode of death is probable suicide.” Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson in Los Angeles on 1 st June, 1926. It was 20 years later that she signed a short-term contract with Twen- tieth Century-Fox and took the screen name Mari- lyn Monroe. She received a few bit parts before re- turning to modelling and famously posing nude for a calendar in 1949. It was only in 1950 that she be- gan attracting attention as an actress, after appea- ring in supporting roles in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve. Monroe gained international fame for her sex-sym- bol roles in the films Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire and There’s No Business Li- ke Show Business. The Seven-Year Itch showcased her comedic talents and features the classic sce- ne where she stands over a subway grating and has her white skirt billowed up by the wind from a pa- ssing train. By 1961, beset by depression, Monroe was under constant psychiatric care. Increasingly erratic du- ring the final months of her life, she lived as a virtual recluse in her Los Angeles home. Marilyn remains a major cultural icon decades after her death.
