SPLIT SPLIT Sinjska alka 306. put
SINJSKA ALKA FOR THE 306 TH TIME A very famous and historic equestrian competition is held in the Croatian town of Sinj, near Split, on the first weekend of August every year. Now in its 306 th year (no, that’s not a typo – it’s really that old!) the Sinjska Alka sees mounted competitors armed with lances and aiming to hit the inside of a metal ring (the alka). Different points are awarded depending on which part of the ring has been hit. The Sinjska Alka, which was added to the UNESCO Intangible World Heritage List in 2010, is such a unique event that it’s well worth attending if you happen to be in the region in early August.
U Beču je u Rasumowskygasse 22, u trećoj bečkoj opštini, otkrivena spo- men-ploča Vilhelmini Mini Karadžić, zna- menitoj slikarki i književnici, ćerki refor- matora srpskog jezika Vuka Karadžića.

together people and cultures in a vibrant combination of food, drink, dance and sport. The festival traditionally attracts around 300,000 visitors over the course of its four weekends, making it one of the biggest events on the Amsterdam calendar. The larger stages are at the centre of the action each weekend, providing a fun selection of DJs, live music and dance workshops. One of the event’s most attractive draws is its collection of street food vendors, with some of the specialities only available at this annual event!
A memorial plaque dedicated to Vienna- born Wilhelmina ‘Mina’ Karadžić-Vukoma- nović, a famous painter and writer who was the daughter of Serbian language reformer Vuk Karadžić, has been unveiled at 22 Ra- sumowskygasse in Vienna‘s third munici- pal district. This renowned painter and wri- ter grew up in the house, which was visited by the likes of Đuro Daničić, Mateja Nena- dović, Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, Prince Mihai- lo Obrenović et al. She was one of only three female painters (alongside Katarina Ivano- vić and Poleksija Todorović) to have worked in Serbia during the 19 th century, while she was also praised for her translations of Ser- bian folk songs.
