Fruška Gora is one of the most fan- tastically idyllic parts of Serbia, so it’s no surprise that you’ll find a typically tranquil spa in its forested foothills. Located just 24km from Novi Sad, Vrdnik also offers an im- pressive array of swimming pools, including an Olympic-sized outdoor beast that’s all but irresistible. Al- so located nearby is the serene Vrd- nik-Ravanica Monastery, as if the spa wasn’t tranquil enough. BANJA VRDNIK

Sokobanja might get all the plau- dits when it comes to celebrating the birth of Serbian spa tourism, but if you want to find the country’s oldest spa you have to travel west, to Banja Koviljača. Also known as the Royal Spa, it is defined by the majesty of its natural surroundings, given that it’s nestled between the iconic River Drina, on one side, and Gučevo mountain, on the other. Fa- mous philologist and linguist Vuk Karadžić also wrote about this place in the 19 th century, adding an ex- tra layer of national pride to this unique destination.
