After 20 years of performing mainly operettas, performances featuring sing- ing and musical comedies, it was on- ly in the 1960s that American musicals (Oklahoma, West Side Story and Kiss Me, Kate) began being performed on the Terazije stage. The newly reconstructed theatre building opened with the pre- miere of the Broadway show A Chorus Line, which received the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. However, many believe that the staging of the musical Chica- go (2006), with a theme from the 1920s that was never closer to today’s reality of Serbia’s daily political life, represents the key moment in the development of Terazije Theatre. This show generated un- precedented interest and even saw the appearance of “ticket touts” in front of the box office. This represented a kind of precedent in shifting the attitude of the audience towards the repertoire of musical theatre. Terazije Theatre is today a house that has fought successfully to confirm its identity and integrity among both the professional public and audiences alike. After more than 280 premieres, it has a well-defined repertoire policy and is the location where top Broadway titles leave the audience breathless.

tre Producers and Managers, Broadway earns more than 1.5 billion U.S. dol- lars from ticket sales annually. If we consider that visitors to Broadway al- so spend money on hotels, restaurants and shopping, it is estimated that this theatre scene contributes more than $5 billion to the New York economy (as calculated just a few years ago). Ter- azije Theatre could never come even close to such statistics.

Terazije Theatre is preparing for the opening of its jubilee 70th season with Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone, under the direction of Nebojša Bradić, for whom this is his rst collaboration with Terazije Theatre vragolije (The Drowsy Chaperone) u režiji Nebojše Bradića, kome je ovo prva saradnja sa Pozorištem na Terazijama Pozorište na Terazijama sprema za otvaranje jubilarne, 70. sezone brodvejski mjuzikl Brodvejske
