A u međuvremenu, Novi Sad diše kroz svoje kulturne baze

Novi Sad has been proclaimed the European capital of culture for 2021. This title is justified by the Exit Festival, the Sterija Theatrical Festival, the Cinema City event, and the Festival of Street Performers, which gathers unusual artists from around the world.

Established in 1861, when Vojvodina was part of the Austrian Empire, the Ser- bian National Theatre was a symbol of the awakening of a national conscious- ness, the place where the Serbian word and history would be preserved and conveyed. This tradition continues today with performances of the plays of the greatest Serbian writers, new interpreta- tions of classics that are given a current context, theatre experiments that go hand in hand with world tendencies... A premiere expected in 2018 is that of the comic opera “Father Ćira and Father Spi- ra”, inspired by the famous novel by Ste- van Sremac, to the music of academic Dejan Despić, on 28 th March, the Day of the Serbian National Theatre.
