ETIHAD : PRVI SVETSKI LET SA GORIVOM OD BILJAKA
Konzorcijum za istraživanje održive bioenergije (SBRC), neprofitna organizacija koju je osnovao Institut Masdar (deo Kalifa univerziteta za nauku i tehnologiju), najavio je prvi komercijalni let na svetu na kojem se koristi lokal- no proizvedeno održivo gorivo. Gorivo je korišćeno na letu Etihadovog boinga 787 od Abu Dabija do Amsterda- ma, što je prekretnica u razvoju čistog, alternativnog avi- onskog goriva za smanjenje emisije ugljenika. Inicijativa se takođe bavi sigurnošću hrane u UAE kroz uzgoj mor- skih plodova kao ključnog elementa u ovom procesu. Etihad ervejz je bio na čelu istraživanja avio-biogoriva u regionu i ovo je prvi put da je let obavljen uz korišćenje goriva dobijenog iz biljaka koje se uzgajaju u slanoj vo- di. Toni Daglas, izvršni direktor grupe Etihada , rekao je: „Ovo je značajna prekretnica za UAE i njegove ključne industrije. To which destination do you most like to y? “When it comes to my favourite destinations, I’ve always been in two minds regard- ing coastal airports and those of major European cities. At large airports you have the impression that you’re on some busy boulevard, because planes are constantly mov- ing around you. On the other hand, coastal airports have their own charm, because you y over the sea, mainland, islands, coastal harbours and small bays, and when you see all of that from a plane it resembles ying through a paradise, with all of those land- scapes surrounding you.” Valentine’s Day is approaching. Can you recall any romantic anecdotes of hap- penings during ights? “On one ight we had an elderly couple in their early seventies as guests. Having travelled a lot by plane when they were younger, they decided to travel by plane to vis- it their son, who lives in Germany. On this occasion, to mark their former days, alongside champagne and cake, the gentleman gifted his wife a beautiful rose – all thanks to, and with the help of, our colleagues, who created a romantic atmosphere.” What do you say to people who fear ying? “There’s no reason to worry. According to all analyses and statistics, aviation is the safest form of transport. During the course of a single day, several thousand ights are conducted worldwide and tens of thousands of passengers are transport- ed, so everything is organised to perfection. Aviation has advanced a lot technolog- ically and safety has become the most important segment. A lot is invested in train- ing, technical aspects and computerisation, all with the aim of ensuring impeccable safety and comfort.” – Na jednom letu gosti su nam bili supružnici u ranim sedamdese- tim godinama. S obzirom na to da su kao mlađi dosta putovali avionom, rešili su da u posetu sinu, koji živi u Nemačkoj, idu avionom. Za tu pri- liku gospodin je u ime starih dana uz šampanjac i kolač supruzi poklo- nio divnu ružu, a sve to zahvaljujući i uz pomoć naših koleginica, koje su napravile romantičnu atmosferu. Šta kažete ljudima koji imaju strah od letenja? – Nema potrebe da se brinu. Po svim analizama i statistikama, avija- cija je najbezbedniji vid saobraćaja. U toku jednog dana u svetu se obavi nekoliko hiljada letova i preveze se na desetine hiljada putnika, tako da je sve organizovano do savršenstva. Avijacija je tehnološki dosta napredova- la i bezbednost je postala najbitniji segment. Dosta se ulaže u obuku, teh- niku i kompjuterizaciju, a sve u cilju besprekorne bezbednosti i komfora.
ETIHAD CONDUCTS WORLD’S FIRST FLIGHT USING PLANT BASED FUEL The Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium (SBRC), a non-pro t entity established by the Masdar Institute that forms part of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, announced the world’s rst commercial ight using locally produced sustainable fuel for an Etihad Airways Boeing 787. The ight, from Abu Dhabi to Amsterdam, marked a major milestone in the development of a clean, alternative aviation fuel to reduce carbon emissions. The initiative also addresses food security in the UAE through the farming of seafood, as a core element in the process. Etihad Airways has been at the forefront of aviation biofu- el research in the region and this marks the rst time that a ight has been operated on fuel derived from plants grown in saltwater. Tony Douglas, Etihad Aviation Group CEO, sa- id:“This is a signi cant milestone for the UAE and its key in- dustries. Etihad is fully committed to this project, which de- monstrates successful proof of a concept that is local, viable, cost-e ective and sustainable. Decarbonisation is impor- tant across the aviation industry and, together with our par- tners, Etihad is proud to be at the forefront of this pioneering new research”.
