“As young and silly as I was, I said that I would, although I didn’t know an- ything about fashion, nor do I follow the trends today. The collection was called “Don’t Look Like Others”and people liked it. However, when journalists asked me to advise Yugoslav women for the upcom- ing Spring/Summer season, I said that, to me, everyone should wear what they

We even joined some pieces with a gun! Those with silicone glue. Without many words, we allowed the sail to lead us. In order to ensure the models were authentic, we decided to leave on the dresses rust, salt, storms, breezes and disloyalty,”saysTonka. fashion again provoked her. She wore one of the dresses from this collec- tion at the fashion show in Split. We asked her how it felt to wear all the memories hidden in the sail and how she now sees the sea in those dresses? “The fact that I didn’t pick up the material in a shop and then tailor these dresses, or that I didn’t borrow a sail from somebody else, but rather that it is mine, the one I looked to, which I directed, low- ered, raised, removed, stitched, provides an authenticity and in the sense of this exhibition. The space of this gallery is in a basement, so my rst association was the hull of the boat. My memories don’t stie me, don’t torment me, be- cause everything has fallen away from them which can drown, disappoint, sad- den, and all that remains is light, good- ness and the future, during which I want these dresses to sail around the world once more.”

impression that she’s an adventurer. She says that she’s always tried to be a lady in all life situations, which in no way im- plies that she didn’t manage to deal with the tribulations of her exciting voyages. “I didn’t have enough adrenaline, so I came up with my own authentic hormone, surdrenaline. A combination of surreal- ism in art and adrenaline in me. Well, it’s that dose of my surdrenaline that I seek in everything I do. She had her rst experiment with fash- ion 29 years ago, and it was in Belgrade. Out of pure boredom, she sketched the design of a dress. It was seen by Dragol- jub Golubović Pižon, a famous journalist and man of style. He asked her if she’d like to arrange a fashion show for lady diplo- mats and ambassadors of the former state.
