HOME OF MONARCHS, THE BIG HOUSE
The first stop is the residence of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. They didn’t choose this in order to ingratiate themselves with the queen. Following a brief disagreement over Kate’s more free-minded style of dressing, Queen Elizabeth has been in excellent relations with the duchess, while the Queen also - despite rumours to the contrary - accept- ed Meghan from the very start beginning of her relationship with Harry. They chose this royal residence be- cause of its historical significance. Buck- ingham Palace was built in 1703 and be- came the home of the British monarchs in 1837, when Queen Victoria came to pow- er. It attracts the huge attention of tour- ists, who are able to tour it during August and September, when the queen isn’t in residence. The Big House, as it is referred to by members of the British royal family, spans an area 77,000 square metres and has 755 rooms, including as many as 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. But maintaining the resi- dence is expensive. It is estimated that ren- ovating the palace would cost 337 million pounds, and it is assumed that Queen Eliz- abeth will be its last resident and that af- ter her death the palace will be convert- ed into a museum. Kate points out in particular the bal- cony of the palace, where members of the royal family gather during official ceremo- nies to greet the citizens and where she kissed William in her wedding gown... twice.

SITE OF HISTORIC WEDDINGS
The duchesses lead us further on to St. Peter’s Abbey in Westminster, to Westmin- ster Abbey, where Prince Charles and Lady Diana were wed on 29 th July 1981. Touring this 11 th century church is another way for them to remind us of Lady Di, who’s their great role model. Kate is extremely attached to this place, because it was here on 29 th April 2011 that she married William and went from being an art historian to the Duch- ess of Cambridge and future Queen of the United Kingdom. This famous abbey has, since the crowning of King Harold II and William the Conqueror (1066), hosted the coronations of all English monarchs, apart from Edward V and Edward VII, using the royal throne of King Edward I, which is still there today. This magnificent site is also the final rest- ing place of the likes of Charles Dickens, Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin, among 3,000 other greats.
