n the karst plateau that runs along the border between Slovenia and Italy lies the picturesque settle- ment of Štanjel, where there’s
den is worth visiting. Along the winding path- way leading to the central section of the park, the scent of the hedgerow intoxicates, while all around spread cascading lawned terraces, with evergreen and various exotic trees and flowers, grape vines and creepers that wrap around old stone walls. The pond with a bridge that stands out in the central part of the garden leaves one breathless. It’s not called the Venetian Bridge for nothing. As such, it should come as no surprise that ever more couples come here from afar to marry right here and create mem- ories on the bridge that reflects proudly in the small lake. The Ferrari Garden fills one with some wondrous energy and draws one into explor- ing its every nook. On clear days, from its edg- es, in the distance are visible the Nanos Moun- tain plateau and the Julian Alps, which collide with the surrounding Tuscany region.
no hustle and bustle, only the intoxicating scent of greenery and colourful vegetation, and postcard scenes. Only the garden the sprawls alongside the old castle has a name reminiscent of fast cars. This green corner of the world, which has been declared by the Government of Slove- nia as a nature park and national monument, is named after its former owner Enrico Ferra- ri, a doctor from Trieste. It was for him that fa- mous local architect Max Fabiani designed the garden in the villa grounds during the period between the two wars.
