Porgi i Bes stižu na Brodvej Tog dana opera Džordža Geršvina Porgi i Bes premijerno je izve- dena na Brodveju. Američki pisac Djubouz Hejvard autor romana Porgi , i dva Geršvina – Džordžov brat Ira se pridružio kao teksto- pisac 1934, uspeli su da stvore neke od najvecih pesama u istori - ji američkog muzičkog pozorišta, uključujuci Summertime, I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’, It Ain’t Necessarily So and Bess, You Is My Wo- man Now . Mnoge pesme su, međutim, isečene iz predstave i nje- nog debija na Brodveju, što je činjenica koja je možda najviše do- prinela katastrofalnim kritikama. It would go on to beco- me one of the top-rated shows of the era! Created by Darren Star and produced by Aaron Spelling, the show turned its relatively unknown cast of actors, including Lu- ke Perry, Jason Priestley and Tori Spelling (Aaron’s dau- ghter), into household names. It also tackled a number of topical issues, ranging from domestic abuse and teen pregnancy to AIDS, and paved the way for other popu- lar teen dramas. U oktobru 1990. prikazan je Beverli Hils , TV drama o grupi tinejdžera koji žive u luksuznom kraju Los An- đelesa, serija koja će postati jedna od najbolje oce- njenih na televiziji! Autor Deren Star i producent Aron Speling okupili su relativno nepoznatu glumač- ku ekipu, uključujuci Luka Perija, Džejsona Pristlija i Tori Speling (Aronovu kcerku) i pretvorili ih u zvezde. Serija se bavila brojnim aktuelnim pitanjima, od po- rodičnog zlostavljanja do tinejdžerske trudnoce i si- de, i otvorila put drugim popularnim tinejdžerskim dramama.
“PORGY AND BESS” ARRIVE ON BROADWAY It was on 10 th October 1935 that George Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess made its Broadway premiere. American writer DuBose Heyward, author of the novel Porgy, and the two Gershwins (George’s brother, Ira, joined as co-lyricist in 1934) managed to create some of the grea- test songs in American musical-theatre history, including Summertime, I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’, It Ain’t Necessarily So and Bess, You Is My Wo- man Now. Many of the songs had, however, been cut from the show between its trial run in Boston and its Broadway debut—a fact that may well have hurt Porgy and Bess critically. In fact, the full George Gershwin score of Porgy and Bess would not be performed again until the triump- hant 1976 revival by the Houston Grand Opera helped establish its cu- rrent place in the standard operatic repertoire. George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward died in 1937 and 1940, not knowing that the poorly-re- ceived Porgy and Bess, which ran for only four months, would later ga- in recognition as one of the most important American musical works of the 20 th century.
