Budweiser Budvar Brewery has long been one of the most successful food businesses in the Czech Republic. In 2017, over 1.5 million hecto- litres of beer were produced there, with more than 60% of that volume exported abroad. Budvar participates by more than one fifth in the total beer exports from the Czech Republic. Budweiser Budvar Premium Lager known by people in 80 countries worldwide is the brewery’s flagship product. Brewed using time-proven craftsmanship procedures and the best natural ingredients, i.e. Saaz hop cones, Moravian malt and pure water from the Artesian wells, the ma- turing period of this lager cellar is 90 days. During this time, the Budwei- ser Budvar lager acquires its total flavour balance, fullness, milder bit- terness and harmony. The production process as well as the ingredients used are in line with the demanding conditions for obtaining the Pro- tected Geographical Indication of “Budějovické pivo”. BREWERY TOURS Budweiser Budvar is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Region of South Bohemia. Last year the brewery was viewed by about 60,000 people, most guests traditionally being from Austria, Ger- many and the Czech Republic. Foreign visitors came from a total of 70 countries last year. During the tours, people mainly appreciate being within the brewery’s production premises and not in an amusement park for tourists. Everyone can thus see the brewing process from the immediate vicinity and observe the employees at work. At the artesian well, guests can learn about the properties of the purest water, drawn from a depth of 300 metres; in the brewing room they will discover how a hopped wort is brewed from Saaz hop cones and Moravian malt; in the lager cellar they can savour the unfiltered and unpasteurised Bud- weiser Budvar lager; in the bottling room they will see the state-of-the- art technical equipment used by the brewery when packaging ready- made beer. Visitors are always attended by experienced guides. MULTIMEDIA EXPOSITION The multimedia exposition called “The Story of Budweiser Beer” was opened in 2005 and modernized in 2015. Using a comprehensi- ble and very entertaining form, the exposition presents the his- tory of brewing beer in České Budějovice, which began in 1265. Nowadays, Budweiser Budvar follows in this long tradition. The tour begins with a large-scale projection

of beer brewing inside a copper brewing tub, con- tinuing with a virtual trip in the mining cage to a depth of 300 meters to the source of unique water for brewing Budweiser Budvar beer. The subsequent historical hall will transport the vis- itors to the year 1265, when the town of České Budějovice was founded and the brewing tradi- tion began there. Another stop is the Gothic-Re- naissance log cabin with the exposition of medieval brewing. The influence of technologies on the develop- ment of brewing is presented by the industrial age hall, where visitors can also learn about the establishment of the Czech Joint-Stock Brewery - the direct predecessor of today’s Budweiser Budvar. The 20th century hall de- scribes the key moments in the history of the brew- ery. The exhibition ends with the demonstration of individual successes of Budweiser Budvar beer in the world as well as a film about the origin and originality of the Budweiser Budvar brand.
