Razlika između Instagrama i Tvitera : Slike govore više od reči Difference between Instagram and Twitter: Pictures speak louder than words
that can be seen by all friends who fol- lower the sender. The greatest part of the recognisable image of Twitter is thanks to one “techni- cal shortcoming”. Namely, the 140-char- acter limit that SMS messages had at that time has become a trademark of this so- cial network, and that limit has changed communication between people forever. That’s because one needs to be a virtuo- so and a kind of linguistic gymnast to ex- press an opinion on a given topic in such a small space. That same restriction also led to the actual name Twitter, because such few words made it sound like a short “tweet” of a bird, which also gave birth to the sparrow as this network’s logo. The first tweet in history was posted by Jack Dorsey on 21 st March 2006 at 21:50 and was a short generic message that read “Just setting up my twttr”. Since then Twit- ter has changed, grown and developed, and it has taken us with it. It is today un- thinkable for any public figure, politician, actor or singer not to have their own pro- file here, and Twitter also differs from oth- er social networks in that so many public figures personally write their own status- es and share them with their followers. In other words, the stars have never been closer, because now you can actually con- tact Madonna directly, and she will have an opportunity to see that. If you are inter- esting enough, and she is sufficiently idle, it could happen that she even responds. There are no more untouchables; famous are not people on TV, they are there, a click
away from us. And they hear what we have to say to them... That’s precisely why Twitter is the only network with such a high level of credibility of information. Twitter is the place where entire revolutions have been launched, the place where we first heard about some ma- jor political decisions, the place where Ba- rack Obama posted his first and last tweets from the White House, the place where the witty official profile of the CIA appeared and fantastically carried its stereotypes and often denounced the FBI’s profile. In the end, Twitter is the place where many public figures arose, because this network provided them with media space to show the world what they’re worth. People once dreamt of being able to reach the televi- sion or newspapers in order to demon- strate their talent or express their views, and today these traditional media outlets invite people from Twitter to have their say. Of course, like any other media, Twit- ter can also be easily misused and exploit- ed for the purposes of manipulation. In an era of superficiality, empty words and life that moves too quickly, it is a true pleas- ure to read the words of digital artists who are able, in just 140 characters, to convey news and their comments on that news and their emotions: fear, hope, love or hap- piness. Twitter recognises only sincerity. At the end of the day, there are thousands of filters that will turn your selfie into the image of Apollo, but no filter exists that is capable of turning a fool into a smart person.
