OSTRVO KO PANGAN KO PHA NGAN ISLAND
K nown, on one side, as a “hippie” island where un- avoidable “Full Moon” beach parties are held each month, but also various parties in the jungle, on the other side it is known for the unbelievable beauty of its nature and the sea. The best way to tour the island is to rent a motorcycle (Thai people have a habit of charging for faults that you didn’t cause, so be sure to take detailed pictures of the bike when signing a contract). Beautiful beaches include Bottle Beach, which is ac- cessed by boat or via a two-hour hike through the moun- tains, Chaloklum Beach and Zen Beach, where the sunsets are like those from romantic lms. If, however, you’re up for a good party, then Hat Rin is the place for you, but you would be best advised to take a taxi, as the road on that side of the island is extremely windy and dangerous, especially for weaker motorbikes. Night markets are a trademark of Thailand, and when it comes to the food, if you’re able you should try absolutely everything. To treat hangovers and cope with the heat, Tom yum (a spicy noodle soup) is indispensable, while when you want to try something dierent you should order thick soup with coconut milk. Those more adventurous spirits can tour the National Park with its several waterfalls, the“walk”, which is mostly up- hill, lasts two hours and requires good physical condition, as well as sports footwear. And, yes, a Thai massage on the sea- shore to the sound of breaking waves for around ten euros is something you simply must treat yourself to.
