H ewasonly16whenhismusicaltal- ent was discovered by pop music bard Oliver Dragojević. A brilliant career was launched that would endure with unabated zest until today, be- cause Petar Grašo is among the ranks of those artists whose every note delights the region. That was also the case when his song‘If they ask you’, which last year took the charts of the entire Balkans by storm. Let’s start by returning to the beginning and the time when Oliver Dragojević rst recognised your musical talent. - My parents at one time socialised in- tensively with the family of Oliver Dragojević. That’s why my memories of, and emotions towards, Oliver intertwine between private and professional. My father once played a cassette for Oliver with the words:“Please lis- ten to what this little one of mine has been babbling around the studio, I have no idea whether it’s good or not”. I was then 16 years old. Oliver listened to the songs and called me a few days later, telling me that they were great and that he wanted to sing some of them on the new album. I was really happy, because I was still a kid. For me, that was an important entry point and great motivation to continue with music. He was crucially im- portant at the beginning of my career, giving me advice, and he was one of the greatest musicians and singers to emerge and who will ever emerge in this region. Oliver also introduced me to Tonči Huljić, who is still one of my best friends and collaborators. You also collaborated with him on the title song of the hit series ‘The Wrong Man’, which is broadcast in Serbia on TV Prva and in Croatia on RTL ... - Yes, Tonči is the author of that song. It was a delight for me that one of the songs from my album would be the title song of that series. The whole song and video were published, because after the series started being aired we had a huge number of re- quests to hear the whole song. While we’re on the topic of legend- ary songs, among your hits you have one called “Tuesday”. Why did you sing about that day in particular? - That song emerged in 1998. I remem- ber that it was late on a Monday evening. I was sitting alone at the piano and that song just came out of me. Sometimes the text takes longer to work out all the polishing, while in rare cases it can happened that the text emerges almost in parallel with the melody. That was the case with ‘Tuesday’. I had the feeling that this song was simply sent to me. The night awakens your creativity? - Night is the time when I best hear my- self. People have the romantic perception of songs being made on a beach with a gui- tar and the sunset, but that would be a little
To me is- punjava ponosom. Šta vam je popularnost donela i oduzela? – Mnogo mi je više donela nego uzela, jer sam je upotrebio u svoju ko- rist. – Posvećen sam i svom splitskom restoranu 25 godina.
Osim mediteranske, izuzetno volim japansku zbog kulture tretiranja siro- vih namirnica. Kako provodite vreme kad ne pe- vate i ne kuvate? – Slobodno vreme provodim u uskom krugu prijatelja. Leti uglav- nom u svojoj vikendici u jednoj uvali pored Trogira. Tada lovim ribu i živim bez previše glamura, buke i ljudi. A šta najviše volite u Srbiji? I moje more.
