GREATEST MASTER OF THE GOLDEN AGE It was on 4 th October 1669 that Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, the most resplendent name in the history of ne art, passed away. Born 15th July 1606 in Leiden, he studied painting there and resided in the city un- til 1630, when he moved to Amsterdam following his father’s death. He is considered one of the greatest artists of all time and the most important artist of the Golden Age of Dutch painting. He was characterised by an ex- ceptional perceptiveness for human conditions, feelings and behaviours, but also the virtuous and innovative way that he represented light, space and atmospheres. Rođen je 15. jula 1606. u Lajdenu, gradu u kojem je učio slikarstvo i živeo sve do 1630, kada je nakon očeve smrti prešao u Amsterdam. Smatra se jednim od najvećih umetnika u istoriji i najznačaj- nijim umetnikom zlatnog veka holandskog slikarstva. Odlikuju ga izuzet- na perceptivnost za ljudska stanja, osećanja i ponašanja i virtuozan i ino- vativan način predstavljanja svetlosti, prostora i atmosfere.
T his year marks the 350 th anniver- sary of the death of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. To hon- our this jubilee, Amsterdam’s Ri- jksmuseum, which owns the largest col- lection of this artist’s works, is presenting all its Rembrandts. The exhibition’s title, which is simple yet precise and witty, could be our key to the concept. It’s not just about all the works of this master that are in the possession of Rijksmuseum, rath- er it is also about the entirety of his artis-
tic approach, phases and media, as well as being about all his personal and hu- man positions.
