T his is the 58th year that Oxford Street has been dressed in glitter- ing attire before Christmas. Along the entire length of this street, in London’s main shopping area, shine 1,778 decorations and 750,000 Christmas lights, all in the form of snowflakes. But this is just one of countless at- tractive streets, so London is only slightly more glamorous at this time than usual. The UK capital, regardless of all the lights and Christmas trees, is one of the best places in the world for spending the New Year’s holidays. You are awaited by fireworks, clubs, midnight concerts, street parties etc. The main event is the ten-minute fire- works display at the London Eye on the south bank of the Thames, but bear in mind that there is a fee to watch the fire- works and tickets cost 10 pounds. If you don’t have a ticket, the only solution is to head for Westminster Bridge and watch from opposite the “Eye”. For clubs, bars and pubs you should set aside more money than usual, because entrance fees are more expensive, and it is advisable to buy tickets in advance. For romantics, cruising the Thames is one of the most elegant and luxurious ways to enter 2018. On a boat, with cham- pagne, dinner, and certainly the best view of the fireworks. Traditionally interesting entertain- ment is also available at the Medieval Banquet, where you can dine in the com- pany of Henry VIII and his court. And, yes, guests are dressed in medieval style, but don’t worry – appropriate clothes can be hired.

Something completely different is happening at the Ritz – a formal “black tie” dinner with live music, marches and flutes. Another classic is the Viennese New Year’s Eve Gala at the famous Barbi- can Centre, which has a tradition dating back 25 years. This year’s evening is de- voted to Strauss and friends, and a great fact is that there are daytime gala activi- ties, for families with children. It’s difficult to list everything that Lon- don has to offers for the festive period, just as it’s difficult to list the same when it’s not New Year, but one thing is certain – you will not be mistaken in choosing London. Even if you only stroll the city beneath all those shimmering snowflakes and Father Christmases, the most beautiful decora- tions you’ve ever seen... And then ... on 1 st January, the whole city is yours. Most museums and attractions maintain regular working hours, but you should check just in case some of them have shortened opening hours. And, yes, happy New Year!

London’s

tube is usually free for New Year, from 11.45pm to 4.30am

Nekada je Trafalgar skver bio glavno mesto za zabavu, ali sada se tamo više ništa ne dešava Trafalgar Square used to be the main place for fun, but nothing happens there anymore
