THE RETURN OF SEX AND THE CITY New York instead of Samantha Sex and the City is returning to television screens this year, with a limited series that reunites the characters of Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte
T hough Sarah Jessica Parker is still in the dark about specific storylines that will run through the 10 half-hour epi- sodes, she said that she and her co- stars are thrilled to be revisiting their beloved characters now that they are in their 50s. Speaking to Vani- ty Fair, Parker mentioned that she is excitedly awaiting the scripts… “I think that Cynthia, Kristin and I are all excited about the ti- me that has passed,” said Parker. “Who are they in this world now? Have they adapted? What part ha- ve they played? Where have they fallen short as women and friends, and how are they finding their way? I’m so curious and excited to see how the writers imagine these wo- men today.” Parker’s questions for Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte kept pou- ring out. “Miranda and Charlotte are both mothers of teenagers now: What is their life like? For Carrie,
who doesn’t have family beyond her friendships, where is she pro- fessionally? Is she still writing a column? Or does she have a po- dcast? What does fashion mean to her now… Obviously, COVID will be part of the storyline, and I wonder how that has changed relationships? sing her role in the reboot. Cattrall is unyielding in her decision not to reprise her character and even proposed that the enchanting So- fia Vergara take on the role. Howe- ver, Parker denied speculation that the series would replace Samantha: “We’re not looking to create a fo- urth character. We have New York City as the fourth character. The- re will be lots of interesting, new characters that we are super exci- ted about.” It is also known that Chris No- th will not return as Mr. Big, while negotiations are purportedly un- derway with David Eigenberg, who played Steve Brady. The UK media are speculating that Parker wants to bring Hugh Grant to the series and that he could agree, but that has yet to be confirmed. The original series encompas- sed six seasons and ran from 1998 to 2004. Two feature films followed after the series ended. The new sea- son will be aired on HBO Max, but the launch date is not yet known.
