HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

FIVE YEARS OF CONNECTION BETWEEN BELGRADE AND NEW YORK Half a decade has already passed since that 23 rd June 2016, when an Airbus A330 took to the skies over Belgrade only to land, nine hours later, at John Fitzgerald Kennedy Airport

AFTER A GAP OF ALMOST A qu- arter of a century, the direct Belgra- de-New York route was officially ope- ned on that fateful 23 rd June 2016, and Air Serbia has since gone on to become and remain the only airli- ne in Southeast Europe to offer tran- satlantic flights to the U.S., carrying thousands of satisfied passengers for whom neither relatives nor friends are any longer far away. Introducing a new route is always an exciting event for an airline, and the excitement was even greater fi- ve years ago, because the flight in question was to New York. But this year’s birthday of this route was al- so very exciting. And that was spe- cifically because Air Serbia sent its newest plane to New York, which has a tail adorned with the likeness of one of the most important scien-

tists of all time, Serbian genius Niko- la Tesla. This jet has a visual identity that differs from the rest of the fleet of the Serbian national airline, whi- le the fact that its load capacity is at more than 90 per cent is another in- dicator of how important New York, the city dubbed by some as the ca- pital of the world, is to the entire regi- on. Manufactured in 2008, Tesla is a year younger than its Air Serbia fleet predecessor of the same type, has Rolls-Royce engines, and 21 seats in business class and 236 seats in eco- nomy class. Passengers who’ve enjoyed the best cuisine on this flight during all previous years can now enjoy a me- nu inspired by the great scientist or, more precisely, by his diet. It is based on three key words that can be used to describe Tesla’s work and patents: energy, frequency, vibration. Air Ser- bia has also brought back hot meals, which have been carefully conceived to satisfy the standards of even the pickiest gastronomes. Everything on the plane, including the food, is done “Tesla’s way”. The fact that this gre- at genius from our region spent most of his life in New York provides addi- tional significance to the symbolism of his seal on the plane that connects Belgrade and the famous metropolis. Air Serbia has transported over 320,000 passengers along its New York route over the past five years, and there’s no doubt it will transport many more. Safety is in first place, but then also comes comfort, inte- resting content, tasty food, friendly cabin crew, the best pilots… All great reasons to make an unforgettable jo- urney across the Atlantic...
