L Lady Gaga has spent the past few months touring the world to pro- mote the film“A Star is Born”, in which she plays the talented Ally and acts side-by-side with Bradley Cooper. Her eccen- tric performances additionally drew the at- tention of this American actor making his di- rectorial debut, who plays musician Jackson Maine in the film, who is tasked with mak- ing Ally famous. This pair try to outdo Janet Gaynor and Fredric March from the original version of the film (1937), Judy Garland and James Mason from the 1954 adaptation, but also Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand from the 1976 remake. This wasn’t an easy challenge, but Lady Gaga has always been crazy about trials and challenges.

Gaga has said that Do- natella Versace is her fashion role model, while the sister of late designer Gianni Ver- sace has accepted the singer as her muse. She has also been accepted by queen of pop Madonna, with whom Gaga is often compared. She initially questioned her “artificial ec- centricity”, accusing her of plagia- rism, but then she backed down and said that her younger colleague is actually a talented musician. The door was also opened to her by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, organiser of the Met Gala, who decided that Ga- ga – alongside Serena Williams, Har- ry Styles and Gucci creative direc- tor Alessandro Michele – would host the Metropolitan Museum’s gala event in 2019.

Her life story is packed with contradictions. On one side is her version of an extremely talented and rebellious girl who achieves popularity in a tough way by opposing her parents. On the other side, however, are the claims of some biographers who insist that Gaga is “one big lie” and that, as a rich heir, everything was served to her, while her path to stardom was paved by her fa- ther’s influence and connections. What biographers don’t dispute is that she was born on 28 th March 1986 in New York as Stefani Joanne Angeli- na Germanotta, the eldest daughter of Italian immigrants Cynthia Louise and Joseph Germanotta. Her talent, which she displayed during her ear- liest childhood, is also beyond ques- tion. “I started playing piano at the age of four. Many people told my parents that I was a wonder kid, because I gave outstanding performances of the toughest compositions by Bach, Beethoven and Chopin, but they didn’t believe that. They thought something was wrong with me and that I was strange because I wasn’t at all inter- ested in hanging out with other children,” once explained Gaga, who started compos- ing at the age of 11. You will often hear her say that she was an outsider as a teenager, who expressed her re- belliousness through unusual clothes. How- ever, Maureen Callahan, author of the book “Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga”, shakes her head when hearing such state- ments. She claims that the greatest brav- ery Stefani Germanotta showed in fashion was to wear dungarees, and that she was far from an outsider due to the privilege she enjoyed as a pupil of the Convent of the Sa- cred Heart Catholic School (which was also
