HOW STEFANI BECAME LADY GAGA

Callahan writes in the book that it was thanks to her father, a web-savvy businessman, that Stefani recorded her first demo tracks. Ga- ga says that her desire to become a sing- er prompted her to abandon her studies at NewYork University’sTisch School of the Arts, where she was“the best in the class, because - as is her greatest flaw - generally the best at everything”. And then she allegedly gave up the life of a wealthy daughter for life in a fusty apartment. “I didn’t pay my bills and my water was some- times turned off, so I didn’t even shower. How- ever, I wasn’t unhappy at all back then, on the contrary, I lived the life of a real artist and only occasionally cried, as that’s something I generally almost never do.” As things go in showbiz, producer Rob Fusa- ri saw something extra in her on one occa- sion. Her voice reminded him of the vocals of Freddie Mercury, so it was no accident that Queen inspired him to give her a nick- name derived from the song “Radio Gaga”. Lady Gaga was born, and the world received a new, unusual star. CRITICS ADORED HER She proved shocking with her styling, but critics adored her, leading to her very first single receiving a Grammy nomination, while her first album, “The Fame”, released in 2008, brought her worldwide popularity. Time Magazine provided wind for her sails with a review of her first album in which she was said to be reminiscent of her role mod- els, David Bowie and Queen, but also that she’d provided great music for dancing. She also received the support of the BBC, which dubbed her “a singer with promise”. A star was born, and with expectations high she didn’t disappoint in the subsequent phas- es of her career either, having to date re- corded six albums and a large number of singles, as well as completing six extreme- ly successful tours. In music she progressed along an upward tra- jectory, but in fashion, which she also want- ed to conquer, she went from success to fail- ure. Gaga didn’t hide the fact that fashion – alongside Michael Jackson, Madonna and Andy Warhol – is her great inspiration, and that she inherited her love of dressing up from her mother. But her fashion visions or the ideas of her stylists met with great resist- ance. Negative comments can be illustratively described by the expression of a frightened Justin Bieber, who ran away from the sing-

as a stripper in New York that she discov- ered she was bisexual. Gaga’s love life has been marked by three relationships - with Lüc Carl, actor Taylor Kinney and talent agent Christian Carino, to whom she got engaged.

GAGA AS AN ACTRESS

A HEART FOR HER FATHER

This 1.55-metre-tall music star tried her hand at acting even before receiving the role of Ally, and her acting opus is almost as colourful as her music career. However, her role in Coop- er’s directorial debut heralds a more signifi- cant film career for her. Or at least this was the judgement of critics at this year’s Ven- ice Film Festival, The Guardian, which gave the film a five-star rating, and Variety, which dubbed it “transcendent”. “This is a story of love, human declines and addiction,”said Lady Gaga, who doesn’t hide the fact that, when it comes to love, she’s had a lot of men and women. She has never been shy, as demonstrated by the fact that she ad- mitted long ago that it was while working

And controversy continues to follow her. A woman who says she’s terribly afraid of being alone and never showers by herself, she also has a ghost detection device in her home and a few years ago paid for her fa- ther’s heart transplant a few years ago. Say- ing that she’d never bought him anything. She also gives her heart unselfishly to her monsters, as her fans are called. And Lady Gaga, who always believed in her- self, deserves a round of applause at the end of this first decade of her career. Whatever people may have thought of her, there’s no doubt that a star was born.
