TRANSFAGARAŠAN NAJLEPŠI PUT NA SVETU TRANSFĂGĂRĂȘAN: THE WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL ROAD

Put omogućava pristup gorskim jezeri- ma Balja i Kapra i vodopadu Balja.

T his 92-kilometre-long road through the south- ern section of the Carpathian Mountains con- nects Transylvania and Wallachia and is a real tourist attraction. It is said to be one of the most spec- tacular and beautiful roads in the world. However, its hairpin turns, sharp descents and S-curves make it very dangerous for driving, while heavy snow cover ensures it is closed to traffic from October to June. Construction began in 1970 and took four years. Prior to the road’s construction, this area couldn’t even be traversed on horseback. The Transfăgărășan Highway today has 27 viaducts and bridges, as well as the longest tunnel in Romania, Bâlea, which cuts through the very tip of the southern Carpathians and is 887 metres long. This route also allows ac- cess to the Bâlea and Călțun mountain lakes and Bâlea Waterfall. If you want to see what a natural open-air gal- lery looks like, to feel fresh air and see clear mountain rivers and lakes, this road is the right one for you.
