ZVEZDARA FOREST
Sa vrhom koji se nalazi na 254 metra nadmorske visine, šuma na Zvezdarskom brdu dominira istočnim delom Beograda, gle- dajući na desnu stranu Dunava. Pošumljavanje je počelo 1933. posle izgradnje Astronomske opservatorije, po kojoj je ceo kraj i dobio ime – narodni izraz za opservatoriju je zvezdarnica ili zvezdara. Pošumljeno je ukupno 145 hektara, a od toga je 21 hektar uređen kao park, gde Beograđani dolaze na izlet, opu- štanje i rekreaciju. Zvezdara je slabo istražen arheološki lokali- tet, a u šumi se nalaze i dva naučna centra, Institut Mihajlo Pu - pin i Naučno-tehnološki park Zvezdara . With a peak at 254 metres above sea level, the forest on Zvezdara Hill dominates the eastern part of Belgrade and over- looks the right bank of the Danube. Forestation of the hill be- gan in 1933, following construction of the Astronomical Ob- servatory, after which the entire area was renamed – with the colloquial term for an observatory being ‘zvezdarnica’ or ‘zvezdara’ [zvezda means star]. A total of 145 hectares were forested, with 21 hectares arranged into a park that’s visited by Belgraders seeking relaxation and recreation. Zvezdara is poorly explored as an archaeological site, while the forest con- tains two scienti c centres: the Mihajlo Pupin Institute and the Zvezdara Science and Technology Park.
