hall will be equipped with solar panels, kinetic flooring and bicycles that concertgoers will themselves ride to generate energy. That energy will be fed into what will become the first ever mobile battery for concerts pow- ered from recycled sources. The audience will thus gen- erate electricity in two ways – through steps on the ki- netic flooring and by pedalling the fixed bicycles that will be available to attendees. Speaking to the BBC, singer Chris Martin explained what it will look like… “When they [concertgoers] move, they power the concert. And we have bicycles too that do the same thing. The more people move, the more they’re help- ing. You know when the frontman says ‘We need you to jump up and down’? When I say that, I literally re- ally need you to jump and down. Because if you don't, then the lights go out!” All equipment will also be adapted to environmen- tal standards, and Coldplay have announced that stag- es will be equipped with energy-efficient LED screens, lasers and lighting that reduces electricity consump- tion by 50 per cent compared to standard equipment. Even the confetti will be 100 per cent biodegradable, while luminous wristbands for audience members will be made entirely from compostable, plant-based ma- terials, with their electronic components to be reused for the next tour. Fans of the band will be provided with addition- al motivation to contribute by using the tour’s offi- cial app, earning discounts on food and drinks if they come to the concert by bike. They will be able to buy sustainable clothing at the concerts, while drinking water will be free in an effort to avoid unnecessarily creating waste from disposable plastic bottles, with people instead able to bring and refill their own re- usable bottles. Apart from reducing emissions through the use of renewable energy sources and encouraging eco-friend- ly habits, Coldplay says that they will plant a tree for every ticket sold. Their last 2016-17 tour saw them perform in front of 5.4 million people, making it one of the biggest ever tours, so it’s hoped that next year’s numbers will be even higher, thus leading to the re- forestation of the planet! “We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together. At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So, we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental ex- perts to make this tour as sustainable as possible and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn,” explained band members on social media. Although Martin admits that they’re still a long way from achieving the absolute effect of a fully eco-friend- ly tour, they’re undoubtedly on the right track and set- ting a great example. Well done, Coldplay!

First and foremost, every concert will use renew- able energy sources, while each stadium or concert
