Ljudi čekaju da odaju počast Vladimiru Iljiču Lenjinu, ocu Sovjetskog Saveza People wait to pay their respects to Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, aka Lenin, the father of the Soviet Union
3. RED SQUARE On route from the Kremlin to Red Square you will find yourself in a beautiful historical museum, made of red bricks, with a fantastic collection of works of art depicting Russian history. Red Square has for centuries been, and still re- mains, the heart and soul of Russia. There is located the 16th century Saint Basil’s Cathedral, which we’ve already pre- sented, but also Lenin’s Mausoleum. When you see a queue on Red Square, you’ll know that those people are waiting to pay their respects to Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, aka Lenin, the father of the Soviet Union, who lies coated in ‘balsam’ and illuminated with red light in a dark hall that’s guarded by soldiers. Entrance is free, and the experience is slightly creepy. On the square itself is one of Moscow’s oldest and most interesting department stores: GUM has always been, and remains, the country’s largest shop, while Red Square was and is a symbol of Russia’s turbulent and intriguing past.
