T he fairytale-like Florence is pri- marily known for the inuential patrons of the Medici family, the famous harmony of Michelange- lo’s David, residents of a mild temperament and, last but not least, incomparable pasta that ensures even the most discerning culi- nary hedonists aren’t left feeling indierent. Men’s fashion has been steadily climb- ing the list of recognisable symbols of Flor- entine luxury and the drivers of this fashion renaissance of a city that has an other- wise dierent tradition from, say, the fash- ion mighty Milan, are the organisers of a unique men’s fashion show called Pitti Im- agine Uomo. It is held every January and June within the walls of the famous Fortez- za da Basso fort. Over the course of a few days, Flor- ence is the epicentre of the most prestig- ious brands and the highest authorities in fashion, and imposing themselves as the rst association with Pitti Uomo are photos of impeccably dressed attendees, whose im- aginative combinations circle the globe via scenes posted on social media. With the global popularisation of“street style”photography, Pitti Uomo has occupied an important place in the calendar of trendy happenings, which is why it teems with in- uencers who wait for their elaborate outts to be snapped by one of the many photo re- porters present, so they can appear in one of

the photo galleries of some inuential life- style site, or otherwise achieve the expect- ed admiration of their Instagram followers. In a stylistic sense, everything is there, as bets a relevant fashion event of the 21 st century. On the one hand, there are consum- ers of the newly created hyper culture who courageously wear the most avant-garde creations of fashion houses with attitude, while on the other hand there are those who, despite everything, refuse to abandon clas- sic Italian aesthetics, believing that elegance is never exaggerated. And both groups rep- resent important and prominent guests. Among the many cameras in attend- ance at this festival of personal style, one that stands out is that of Italian photogra- pher Enrico Labriola, who bravely decided to shift his focus from the clothes people wear there to their character, creating casual portraits on the move. Otherwise known for his many exquisitely elegant covers of Vanity Fair, but also as a rare man whose lens can relax even Donatella Versace, each time he gives himself the very dicult task of capturing all that beauty of diversity for the Pitti Uomo Media Gallery, united under the name “Pitti People”. Going beyond the scope of traditional fashion reportage works, his portraits are intimate, with an almost chamber-like at- mosphere. This is how the recently con- cluded edition of the world’s most unusu- al men’s fashion event appeared from his perspective.
