WE’RE GOING TO VIENNA IDEMO U BEČ

Why? Because 50 per cent of the city is covered by green areas. Because it is a city in which, by some miracle, despite globalisation and mass production, a long tradition of old crafts has been preserved. Because that which endures for a long time is really ap- preciated here, so Mayor Michael Häupl has even held his function for 24 years. Because as many as 100,000 students attend the Uni- versity of Vienna. Because even ordinary water from drinking fountains is exceptional here – crystal clear and sourced via two pipe- lines from a mountain spring some 330 kilometres away. Because Vienna is restoring the icon of the city from 1907 – the Normalzeit, a watch with countless digits that shows minutes and seconds, and which lost its primacy and significance following the emergence of smartphones. It is the symbol of a luxury that the Viennese do not want to re- linquish – time. Because it is a city that is, due to all of this, a nice place to live. And if we can’t live there, we can at least visit.
