Zbog svega ovo- ga Muzej Macura je ušao u uži iz- bor od 20 najalternativnijih muze- ja u Evropi. Particularly satisfying for Macura, but also his guests, is the realisation that here, at the end of the world, practically beyond reach, visitors have the opportunity to see works characteristic of the world’s great- est museums. It is for all of these reasons that the Ma- cura Museum was included on the short- list for the 20 most alternative museums in Europe. At this moment while you are perusing Elevate, it may already be a win- ner, the laureate of a prize called the Liv- ing Award. The Macura Museum and “Magacin” are visited annually by around 5,000 art lov- ers, and there are increasingly more tour- ists coming as special guests. This figure exceeds the turnover of many of the cap- ital’s museums, though Macura says that he “does not want to be compared with anyone”. Everyone has his own dream and ability to follow it.
Every curator, even of the Tate Gallery, recognises Macura’s mission. He is open to all suggestions, but he primarily follows his own feelings. He is aware that real ener- gy is created by a common commitment, that those who see and receive a work are equally as important as the one who cre- ated it. All of this combines to bring this museum to life and thus make it unique. “The museum is now a complete en- tity, but life compels you to go further,” says Macura, explaining the opening of his new “Magacin” (Warehouse) space in the neighbouring village of Stari Banov- ci. Equally fairy-tale in appearance, with a similarly unreal view of the Danube, “Ma- gacin” is located in a former grain store that is now used to create and archive the most varied artistic works. “This former bread mine is now a mine of hope”, says Macura poetically. In the “Magacin” you will meet – via their works – the Gorgona Group, Julije Knifer, Marina Abramović, Gergelj Urom and Neša Paripović. You’ll enjoy seeing new stars of the impervious artistic sky.
