HB - The Legal Corner Magazine - Issue #6

Promoting Knowledge Sharing Our commitment to sharing valuable insights and updates with our clients and peers continues to be a cornerstone of our approach. Leveraging various channels such as our insightful blogs, active social media presence, and the Legal Corner magazine, we strive to keep our stakeholders well-informed. The success of our '4 Corners' podcast signifies our dedication to fostering an informed and engaged community. A recent online webinar presented by Sarju Kotecha, Steven Ross and Bhavini Kalaria focused on crucial landlord and tenant matters, delving into the implications of the potential section 21 changes. Providing participants with valuable insights and resources, it further established our commitment to educational initiatives. Our next webinar, scheduled for March 2023, will focus on the latest developments in private client and residential property news.

Recent trends have been driven by interest rates, and smaller deals and refinancing rather than acquisitions. Intelligent, and sensible borrowing has been emphasised, especially as landlords diversified from buy-to-let to commercial and semi- C ommercial spaces. However, as the landscape evolves, the outlook for Q1 and Q4 is anticipated to be distinct, paying particular attention to changing rules, the upcoming elections, and sectors such as care and student accommodation, and a plateauing of interest rates. John O’Donovan also discussed the reasons why residential and commercial property transactions involving financing require specialist knowledge of whether a mortgage will be regulated, and whether it is better for a deal to be structured differently, such as with a SPV.
