In addition, although essentially a private person, Penny was involved in client- facing roles for a number of our larger clients, with whom she established effective relationships that spanned many years. One of those clients wrote to us:- “It was always a pleasure talking to Penny, not only was she so efficient and good at her job, but because we could always share a joke together. I know she will be hugely missed“ Penny was preparing to retire at the end of 2023. She was a keen gardener and was looking forward to having more time for her garden and other interests. Whilst she had always been very “hands on” she was gradually handing over her work to others and looking forward to her new life. Penny sadly died in October 2023, before she could enjoy her retirement, and she is greatly missed by all of us at Harold Benjamin.
It is with great sadness that we inform our readers of the untimely death of our longest serving colleague, Penny Sones. Penny started work with the firm, then Harold Benjamin & Collins, in April 1973 when she was just 18 years old. She worked in the South Harrow office and later in various of our Harrow based offices. In the early days Penny worked for Harold Benjamin, Brian Zeff, Roger Lane and Richard Crowe. Penny was the first person in the firm to have a word processor and had the sole responsibility for the documentation involved in heavy- weight commercial, corporate and property transactions. She also set up and administered what became the firm’s first precedent bank. Later Penny worked for managing partners Keith Flavell and Vijay Parikh and played a pivotal role in the administration of the firm. The support Penny gave to individual partners was legendary. She would have thought nothing of coming into the office on Christmas Day if it was needed!
