A love of travel, art and moderate he- donism were among the main rea- sons why Milica Janković chose to visit Barcelona. According to her, Barcelona won her over as soon as she saw its architecture, beaches and food, and lat- er also its people, who are direct, happy and very lively. “At every step it’s somehow evident that everything is tailored to tourists, with a large number of hospitality facilities and excellent service. As for the atmosphere in the city itself, one feels liveliness at every step, whether you’re walking or sitting in some restaurant,”says Mil- ica, adding that the Spaniards are hedonists in spirit and character, which can be felt in the packed bars and gardens of one of the city’s busiest streets, Passeig de Gràcia. “This street is the central point from which you head out to tour the city. It is packed with shopping opportunities, which is why tourists simply ock there. What attracted my attention were its two Gaudi buildings, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, which leave nobody feeling indif- ferent and show that Gaudi was way ahead of the time in which he lived and worked. It is a special experience to pass them at night, when the exterior lighting is switched on and everything gains an even more beautiful form.
These two buildings are the best introduction to what awaits on the Gaudi route,” says Mili- ca, who naturally leads us to the next impor- tant point – Park Güell . “Above the park is the panoramic view- point of the Carmel Bunkers, which oers views of the whole city. From Park Güell continue on wherever your legs take you, but don’t forget La Sagrada Familia and Plaça de Gaudi. I would advise everyone to book tickets online in ad- vance for all the points of interest you plan to tour, because there a large crowds when you do all that on the day.” Apart from Gaudí’s architectural works, oth- er must-sees in the city include Ciutadella Park, the Gothic Quarter or El Born, La Barceloneta, the cathedral, musical fountains, La Boqueria market, and around an hour’s train ride away is thetownofFigueresandtheDalíTheatre-Muse- um. If these walks exhaust you, you can always sit and recover with traditional dishes from this region – tapas, meze appetisers. If you decide to do so at some of the restaurants or cafés, Milica recommends the Casa Lolea, a restau- rant known for its large selection of Sangria, as well as its excellent risotto with trues. Also, if you visit Cecconi’s restaurant, you will have an opportunity to enjoy excellent food and even better service at aordable prices.
