J ovana Kvržić perhaps represents gen- uine proof that travels and studies can be perfectly compatible, be- cause she has spent the last three years simultaneously studying successfully and touring the world. Today, besides con- tinuing her doctoral studies in pharmacy, she can also boast of the fact that she has toured almost 50 countries and seen three oceans. With her blog,‘Jovana’s life in a suit- case’, she provides lovers of travel with use- ful and interesting information, while for us she decided to share her impressions of Hel- sinki, one of Europe’s most northerly cities. “Finland primarily attracted me because of its magnicent nature, and the homeland of Father Christmas can’t help but sound in- teresting. Helsinki has found itself on the list as the rst stop in Scandinavia, due to the suitability of its location for touring this re- gion (by boat, over land or by plane). Apart from that, I’ve read a lot about their way of life, which diers from the one to which we’re accustomed.” Despite not knowing anyone in Helsin- ki, she wasn’t afraid to embark on an adven- ture in this city that’s also known as an ur- ban art gallery. “Although the people seemed, at rst glance, to be a little cold and reserved, the city exudes positive energy. No one is in a rush, while tolerance and organisation are

With another phenom- enon of Finland, saunas, she had more luck. “I heard that there are more saunas than cars in Finland and that they are extreme- ly popular. Advertisements for spa centres are everywhere, but almost every house al- so has its own private sauna,”noted Jovana. When it comes to local specialities, it is obligatory to try the sweet buns known as Pulla, which are traditionally served along- side coee. The best ones, says Jovana, are found at the Café Esplanad in the very heart of the city. “Just arm yourself with patience, because this café has wide renown and is often packed with visitors. Also be sure to try their Kala- kukkoa speciality, a kind of bread lled with small sh, the best examples of which can be eaten on the Kauppatori Market Square. Additionally, this market provides beautiful views of the sea,”says Jovana, adding that al- though she’s not a lover of beer herself, she recommends that visitors spend an evening visiting some of Helsinki’s most famous brew- ery/beer-houses - Stadin Panimobaari, Brew- Dog and Bryggeri, where standard ales are served alongside craft beers.

In terms of architec- ture, Helsinki really has lots to oer, from the most modern skyscrapers to buildings dating back over 400 years,” says Jovana, adding that the Kamppi Chapel, the Chap- el of Silence, one of the most famous works of Finnish wooden architecture and a place where you can nd respite, is something that denitely shouldn’t be missed. “Silence has become a luxury in recent times and it is only when visiting such plac- es as this that I realise how much we need it. I was even uncomfortable extracting my camera to take a picture of something there, because every sound would spoil the tran- quillity that prevails.” Given that she visited Finland in Febru- ary, she didn’t have an opportunity to en- The Chapel of Silence is one of the most famous works of Finnish wooden architecture and a place for rest Kapela ćutanja čuvenoje delo finske drvene arhitekture i mesto gde možete da se odmorite
