BAD LUCK BANGING OR LOONY PORN The Golden Bear, the Berlin Film Festival’s top award, headed to Romania this year, for a film about a school teacher who finds herself in a very uncomfortable situation when her home sex tape goes viral online. Following the trail blazed by Yugoslav author Dušan Makavejev, Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn is simultaneously a socio-politically engaged work, a comedy, a philosophical essay, but also the first significant film to have utilised the situation of shooting in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in a very creative and documentary way. The author is Radu Jude.

GREAT FREEDOM Austrian director Sebastian Meise’s third feature film, Great Freedom, had its premiere screening in Cannes, where it won the jury award in the festival’s Un Certain Regard section. Meise's film is a shocking, almost existentialist testimony of post-war Germany and the systematic persecution of homosexuals on the basis of Paragraph 175 of the German Criminal Code, while the story follows Hans, who – after having been detained in a concentration camp during the war – now finds himself imprisoned for his sexual orientation.
