F ans of active winters can find a varied and attrac- tive offer in Vienna, but also in the immediate surroundings of the Aus- trian capital. The Dollwiese ski facil- ity in Vienna’s 13 th district is suita- ble for children, beginners and fans of sledging. A 100-metre-long ca- ble car carries visitors to the top of the trail. This facility operates from December to March, opening dai- ly at 10am or 12 noon and closing when night falls, while use of the facility is free of charge. The Vienna Ski School, which is located in the city’s 14 th district, is organised on an area covering 3,500 square metres. Its offer includes ski- ing and snowboarding courses, as well as the hiring of equipment re- quired. It has a 40-metre-long cable car. The facility can be used regard- less of whether you opt to utilise the ski school’s services. Special slid- ing surfaces have been installed cov- ering an area of 1,500 square me- tres, so everyone wanting to try their hand at skiing can do so even with- out snow. The facility has also been adapted for bobsleigh rides. Located an hour’s drive from Vi- enna is the natural snowy paradise of Unterberg, where there’s no queuing or overcrowded ski trails. This facility boasts four cable cars, one children’s ski lift and an amusement park. The Unterberg ski resort provides guar- anteed fun for both novices and more experienced skiers, with 12 trails of varying difficulty. The five-kilometre descent from the top to the valley is a red run, while the remaining elev- en kilometres of trails are blue runs.
