I ndustry platforms European Film Market, Berlinale Co-Production Market, Berlinale Talents and the World Cinema Fund will jointly kick off the 71 st Berlinale in March with an online offer. A summer event will also be held in June, with numer- ous film screenings for public audiences – both in cinemas and outdoors. First established in 1951, the Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, has evolved over the years to become one of the most im- portant international film festivals. It was on 6 th June 1951 that Alfred Hitch- cock’s Rebecca, starring Joan Fontaine, opened the first ever Berlin Internation- al Film Festival at the Titania-Palast cin- ema in West Berlin. With much of Ber- lin then still in ruins as a result of the recent war, Fontaine came to Berlin as the festival’s first “star guest”.
