S vi putevi iz noćnih izlazaka po splavovi- ma vode preko Ulice Goce Delčeva, du- hovito prozvane Dolina gladi. Ulica je puna restorana brze hrane, a najpopu- larniji specijalitet je šiš-ćevap. U nekim drugim okolnostima možda ne bi bio najbolja stvar ko- ju ste probali, niti vaš prvi izbor kada je u pita- nju ponuda s roštilja, ali, ukus šiša koji na kra- ju dobijete pripreman je celonoćnim provodom, glasnom muzikom i dobrim društvom i zači- njen lakim umorom i pospanošću. Sutradan ćete možda razmišljati o tome kako možda nije zdra- vo jesti tako nešto tako kasno, ali – u tom tre- nutku vam verovatno ništa slađe neće pasti.
A fter a night out on the “splav” raft clubs, all roads lead to Goce Delčev Street, jokingly dubbed the Valley of Hunger. This street is full of fast food outlets, with the most pop- ular speciality being the shish kebab. Under other cir- cumstances, this might not be the best thing you’ve ever tried, or even your first choice when it comes to grilled meat, but the taste of the kebab you ultimately receive has been prepared during a full night of partying, loud music and good company, and seasoned with light ex- haustion and drowsiness. The next day you might con- sider it wasn’t such a healthy idea to eat something like that so late into the night, but at that moment there’s probably nothing that would go down better.

I dok hodate pločnikom hvatajući ritam grada, ogledajući se u izlozima, vireći u galeri- je i razmenjujući poglede sa prolaznicima, koki- ce – nepretenciozna, a zarazna grickalica – nude ukus koji odgovara tom osećaju opuštenosti. Zi- mi će vas možda jače privući miris pečenog ke- stenja, leti miris pečenog kukuruza, ali – kokice su uvek glavna ponuda. P eople usually associate popcorn with darkened cinema auditoriums, while many Belgraders as- sociate it with Knez Mihailova Street, the city’s main pedestrian walkway. The complete experi- ence would include a sunny day, sufficient time for a lei- surely walk to Kalemegdan Park and a bag of piping hot popcorn to share with birds along the way. And while you walk along the pavement, catching the rhythm of the town, checking your reflection in shop windows, peering into galleries and exchanging glances with passersby, that popcorn – an unpretentious but addictive snack – offers a taste that suits that feeling of relaxation. In winter you may be more strongly attracted to the scent of roasted chestnuts, or in summer roasted corn on the cob, but pop- corn is always the main snack on offer..
