LIFE IN ROSÉ The discreet charm of rosé
If you have doubts about how to select a dev- ilishly good rosé, you won’t be mistaken if you opt for indicators of geographical origin for the south of France, Spain, Italy – but also Serbian cellars whose rosés rival the best. Beyond Europe, it is certainly worth mentioning California’s fruity and sunny Zin- fandel, which is classed among the sweeter wines, but has a balance of aromas that elevates it above the gen- re of dessert wines. This naturally leads us to the topic of what food to serve with a properly chilled rosé in order to achieve the perfect compatibility of food and wine. If you drink it alongside meat, let that be chicken or dry-cured pršut ham - although it goes equally well (if not even bet- ter!) with seafood and grilled fish. In terms of chees- es, its balance of aromas makes it naturally suited to young white cheeses, but also creamy Brie and char- acteristic Camembert. And for the finale, I would add my personal guilty pleasure – a glass of rosé with a bowl of freshly prepared, hot and well-salted popcorn. This is my pop version of life in pink, “La vie en rose”!
When it comes to wine, the question is no longer “white or red?”, because the trendy answer is “rosé”! W e are approaching the days when long, leisurely afternoons on sun- drenched verandas will no longer merely be distant memories of by- gone summers. And with this in mind, every hedonistic scenario inevitably includes a glass of wine to complete the idyll – and there’s every chance that this wine will primarily be a chilled rosé. The popularity of rosé wines has been growing year- on-year over the past decade, but sales soared to the stratosphere during the pandemic of 2020. It seems as though the entire world has been seduced by its light and refreshing aromas! Its market potential has been discussed within in- formed circles ever since Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie became the owners of a winery in Provence – where the Miraval wine is now being produced and repre- sents the gold standard when it comes to fresh, re- fined rosés. The power of these two charismatic fig- ures’ fame is contributing to the promotion of this wine, despite the fact that they are no longer a ‘power couple’, and this alluring wine in an irresistible shade of pinkish gold is doing well even in areas where the consumption of wine doesn’t form the basis of tradi- tion or shape the mentality.
