A gift from France, Lady Liberty carries a torch and a plaque marking the date of 4 th July 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. The statue has long since lost its original copper colour and turned green due to oxidisation. The last of the four major Grand Slam tournaments of the year is played every September at the com- plex located within Flushing Meadows Park in Queens. Even if tennis doesn’t interest you, this largest park in Queens (and fourth largest in New York) is worth visiting. Apart from the ten- nis complex, green areas, playgrounds and fields for all types of sports, it also houses the Queens Museum, the New York Hall of Science, a zoo and even the Mets’ Citi Field Stadium. STATEN ISLAND FERRY As an alternative to the expensive and overcrowded boat that car- ries tourists around the Statue of Liberty, hop onto a free ferry to Staten Island, which is part of New York’s regular city transport network and operates 24/7. You will also see the Statue of Lib- erty and enjoy a phenomenal view of Manhattan. The ferry is al- ways clean, arrives on time and mostly isn’t crowded. Osim svih dobro poznatih muzeja i galerija u Njujorku, vre- di posetiti i nešto sasvim drugačije – Bušvik strit art galeriju.
