The American War of Independ- ence led to the suspending of theatre work that had emerged in New York, only for ac- tivities to be restored in 1798. Theatre halls sprouted up all over the city, only to later be- gin concentrating in the so-called “Theater District”. Suddenly everyone was going to the theatre.
