Najbolje iz Srbije / best of serbia S ince she was a little girl, Rad- mila Trijić, lawyer and founder of the Ljubovija Women’s Asso- ciation “Vila”, has heard stories about the famous Azbukovica bags, their luxurious beauty and how the people of this region of Western Serbia have been called “curved bag carriers” due to their love for these bags. That’s precisely what inspired her to gather in one place all these unusu- al handicrafts – from those for weddings or christenings, through those for priests and teachers, to those in which shepherds carried their bread and water bottles. This

U toj torbi bilo je mesta za jabuku, čuturu, perorez, somun, luk, slaninu… Jabu- ka kao dar za domaćina, čutura da se nazdravi s putnikom, a hrana da se tokom puta predahne i prezalogaji. I kada su išli da brane svoju ze- mlju, Azbukovčani su nosili torbice i u njima parče hleba. – U teškim ratnim danima, dale- ko od rodnog kraja, torbe su ih pod- sećale na zavičaj.
led to the creation of the exhibition “The Azbukovica bag”, dedicated to this item that the people of this region never go without... - The colourful bag that our ances- tors carried in the fields, when visiting friends of heading into the city, became bent under their burden and that’s why they called it the “curved bag”, and we be- came known as “curved bag carriers”. Our ancestors were born, celebrated, fought wars, healed, studied, awaited and sent on their way, travelled and commemorat- ed victories, love and sorrows with their curved woollen bags... Women also had their own bags, for working and personal possessions, which they carried when visit- ing places as guests, keeping their wool and knitting equipment in them,” says Radmila. As someone who is herself in love with the beauty of the Azbukovica bags, Radmi- la collected them for years, and then de- cided to expose her little homeland col - lection in one place, in order to enable others to admire their beauty. - We want the Azbukovica colourful bag to become our brand; our sign of recog- nition that tourists would carry with them when leaving Azbukovica. The look of this bag, which will be our souvenir, is to be designed by academic and icon painter Sister Krstana Tasić from the Soko-grad Monastery. She says that they plan to recount to tourists an interesting story about the curved bag that follows Azbukovica natives throughout their entire lives. - Our colourful bag is linked to various professions, and in our region it is made NESTING GROUND OF THE DANUBE SALMON Arriving each spring in the Trešnjica River Gorge from the Drina are the huchen, or Danube salmon, fish, which come to nest naturally. They lay their eggs in this river gorge, with thousands of young fish later returning to the Drina. This natural phe- nomenon is unique in the world. And it is this that makes this place a true paradise for ornithologists and all nature lovers.
STANIŠTE BELOGLAVOG SUPA Reka Trešnjica izvire na jugozapadnoj strani planine Povlen, na ven- cu takozvanih Valjevskih planina, na visini od 1.185 metara, a uliva se u Drinu na nadmorskoj visini od 179 metara. Kanjon je zaštićeno prirod- no dobro Srbije od izuzetnog značaja, dugačak je šest kilometara i du- bok više od 100 metara. Veliki deo kanjona je nepristupačan za ljude, pa je tu svoje stanište našao beloglavi sup, zaštićena vrsta ptica, koji se gnezdi na liticama kanjona. Trenutno je tamo oko 30 parova ovih pti- ca, a opstaju zahvaljujući hranilištu koje je postavljeno na ulazu u kanjon Trešnjice. O njima već decenijama brine porodica Vučićević, zaljubljenici u ove orlove lešinare čiji raspon krila ima prečnik od čak tri metra. HABITAT OF THE GRIFFON VULTURE The River Trešnjica emerges on the southwestern side of Povlen Mountain, from the range of the so-called Valjevo mountains at an elevation of 1,185 metres above sea-level and merges with the Drina at an elevation of 179 metres. The gorge is protected as a natural treasure of Serbia of exceptional significance With a length of six kilometres, it has a depth exceeding a hun- dred metres. A large part of the gorge is inaccessible, and it is there that a home was found by the griffon vulture, a protected bird species that nests on the cliffs of the gorge. There are currently around 30 pairs of these birds there, and they survive thanks to the feeding spots set up within the Trešn- jica gorge. They have been cared for for decades by the Vučićević family, who are great admirers of this scavenging birds of prey, which have a wing- span with a diameter as great as three metres.

MRESTILIŠTE MLADICE
U kanjon Trešnjice svakog prole- ća iz Drine na prirodni mrest dola- zi riba mladica. Ona u kanjonu ove reke polaže ikru, iz koje se po- tom u Drinu vraća na hiljade mla- dih riba. Ovo je prirodni fenomen, jedinstven u svetu. Zbog toga je ovo mesto pravi raj za ornitologe i sve ljubitelje prirode.
