B urnt out and looking for a more rewarding and adventurous life, I quit the rat race to focus on be- ing more entrepreneurial and in- dulging my passion for the outdoors. “You love hiking? Then you have to travel around Serbia, it’s a beautiful and wild country”, my Belgrade friends told me. Like many of my British countrymen and women, spending time in nature is an increasingly important part of my life and what better way to embrace this new lifestyle of mine than with an “adventure road trip”in Serbia; my wife’s home- land and a country I loved
but knew little about. With the Via Dinari- ca set to become one of the best long dis- tance hiking trails in Europe, and as more adventure travel companies start working in the Balkans region, I decided to find out for myself what they, and I, had previously been missing out on. So, together with my wife Zorica and daughter Emma (6 years old), we packed up and took to the road, stopping along the way to enjoy hik- ing in
some areas of outstanding natural beau- ty. What I found was a revelation. Serbia is home to pristine wilderness, mountains, deep gorges, rivers and wide ex- panses of unspoilt na- ture.

Šetajući po blagim obron- cima Fruške gore, prona- šao sam pravi spokoj, obi- lje ptica i zaklon od letnjeg sunca, kao i nekoliko do- brih vinarija za osveženje. Best known as a winter sports destination this large massif of- fers a number of hiking trails and a visit in summer is guar- anteed to avoid the crowds that flock here when the snow falls. Try the Josif Pančić Trail (a 45km round trip).
