5 TOP MARTIN IZBOR MARTA’S CHOICE 1 Ada Safari and the restaurant “Opušteno”. Having a nice meal in a cosy place next to a lake where you can see huge fish jumping is super relaxing and this is definitely one of my favourite places to spend a lazy Sunday. Ada safari i restoran „Opušteno“. Lep obrok na opuštenom mestu pored jezera iz kojeg iskaču ogromne ribe nešto je što me totalno opušta. Jedno od mojih najomiljenijih mesta za lenje nedelje.

“Shake’n’Shake”, a venue located right on the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube. I love it because you can enjoy a cup of coffee with a view of the fortress and the rivers during sunset and have a great party in the same place until you can enjoy the sunrise. I’ve never seen a place like that anywhere! „Shake’n’Shake“. Mesto se nalazi na samom ušću Save u Dunav. Dopada mi se jer možeš da uživaš ispijajući kafu s pogledom na tvrđavu i reku u sumrak. A možeš tu da ostaneš sve do zore i provedeš se fenomenalno. Nikada i nigde nisam videla takvo mesto! Kafana “Question Mark”. I discovered this place in a food tour and because of it I’m now a fan of Turkish coffee. It’s super cosy, especially on a rainy day, with its wooden furniture, warm coffee and Turkish delight. Kafana „Znak pitanja“. Otkrila sam ovo mesto otkrivajući ukuse Beograda i sada sam ozbiljan fan turske kafe baš zbog ove kafane. Veoma je prijatno i opušteno, naročito u kišnim danima, kada vas greje drveni ambijent, vrela turska kafa i slatkiši poput baklave. “Blaznavac” café-bar. This is a very unique place in terms of decoration, with good music and cocktails. It’s definitely worth having a couple of drinks there! „Blaznavac“ kafe-bar. Jedinstveno mesto u smislu dekoracije. Sjajna muzika i odlični kokteli. Definitivno preporučujem da se tamo popije neko piće. Walk along Zemun quay. The most visited waterfront in Belgrade, it connects the New Belgrade and Zemun stretches of the Danube bank. There are plenty of Belgrade’s world famous floating clubs and restaurants, and it’s great for walking around and enjoying the view. It reminds me a little of the canals that I discovered when I lived in Oxford. My favourite restaurant there is “Kod kapetana”. Šetnja zemunskim kejom. Najposećenije šetalište uz vodu u Beogradu, spaja novobeogradsku i zemunsku obalu. Tu se nalaze čuveni restorani i splavovi, a prelepo je za šetnju i uživanje u prirodi i pogledu. Podseća me pomalo na kanale koje sam volela u Oksfordu. Omiljeni restoran u tom delu grada svakako je „Kod kapetana“.

M arta Velasco is a Senior In- teraction Designer at Nor- deus. Before arriving in Belgrade, she worked for Zynga, a huge gaming company based in San Francisco. Born and raised in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain), Marta moved to Madrid to study and start her career, after which she went to London and Oxford. Her journey next led her to San Francisco in California, but now she lives in Belgrade… What’s your favourite thing about Belgrade? - Belgrade is full of green and peace- ful areas, where people exercise togeth- er in groups or hang out with their fam- ilies, but there is also great nightlife which makes me feel like people know how to have fun here. I feel like there are a lot of activities going on until late, and it feels alive as a city. Have you visited other places

around Serbia? Any impressions? - So far I’ve only been to Fruška Go- ra, visiting a ranch and riding horses. I love nature, so I had a great time. Hope- fully, I’ll visit more places soon. How much does Belgrade differ from the previous cities where you lived? Are there any similarities? - I think I can see some similari- ties with Madrid, the weather, people in bars and nightlife, and some of the architecture. Serbian people are warm and friendly, like we are in Spain! What are your favourite dishes here? - Ajvar chutney, Baklava, Knedle dumplings… all of them are delicious and “dangerous”, so I only have them on special occasions, when going out socially. Have you ever been to a kafana? What did you think about the mu- sic?

- Yes, I enjoyed it. It definitely adds a unique atmosphere that will always belong to my memories of my life in Serbia. What are your favourite things about the Belgrade neighbour- hood of Vračar, where you live? - I like living in an historical envi- ronment. Being around embassies from different countries makes me feel even more connected to the rest of Europe. I have everything that I need around me (supermarkets, restaurants, fash- ion shops, parks). It’s well connected to downtown too, just a 15-min walk! How do you spend your free time? - Belgrade inspired me to be more active, and lately I’ve been doing lot of exercise and I love it! Also, as summer is so hot here, I spent most of my free time at the swimming pool, where I’m able to disconnect from everything else, including my phone.
