Millennials have embraced Nikola Tesla as their lost hero, a genius who was mistreated by ‘the man’ at every turn, but he is just the tip of thie iceberg. Many sons and daughters of Serbia made the world a better place

His name is Popov, Dušan Popov. No idea who that is? Well you’ve certainly heard of James Bond! Popov was a double agent during World War II and a genuine international playboy, whose antics in casinos led to Ian Fleming creating the character of the famous 007 agent. Just like the hero of Fleming’s novels, Popov was charming and silver-tongued, but also just as resourceful and ingenious, to the extent that no one doubted his intentions. He created as many as three different identities for himself. To the British secret service he was Agent Tricycle, to Germany’s Abwehr his name was Ivan, while in the Yugoslav government they called him Duško. And he probably also liked to drink a good martini - shaken, not stirred!

After graduating from high school as the best pupil in mathematics and physics, Mileva received permission to attend the hitherto all-male Royal High School in Zagreb and to study medicine at the University of Zurich. She was only the fifth ever woman to be accepted into this school, as well as being the only woman in her group. Of course, most people know her due to the fact that she was married to Albert Einstein. However, few people know that Mileva is an unacknowledged co- author of his work on the theory of relativity. This co-author theory is only substantiated by the fact that the most famous physicists of that time invited Mileva to work with them, as well as the fact that Einstein’s works were signed with both of their surnames.
