the tram line towards “Mostar”, the Weifert Brewery and Topčider were introduced as early as 1894. Elegant houses of prominent Belgraders rose one after another. Among the street’s residents were lawyers, singer Mijat Mijatović, Archbishop Metropolitan Mihailo, architect Nikola Nestorović and, sometime later, Prince Pavle Karađorđević, the Bajloni family, Isidora Sekulić and others. The presence of large public buildings mostly determined the pic- ture of Kneza Miloša Street during the interwar period, with state ad- ministration buildings grouped at the intersection of Nemanjina and Kneza Miloša streets. In the spirit of academism, the then Ministry of Finance (today’s government build- ing) was built according to the project of Russian architect Nikola Krasno- va, while the Palace of the Minis- tries of Forestry and Mines, Agri- culture and Water (today’s foreign ministry) was built according to the project of architects Nikola Nestor- ović, Dragiša Brašovan and the afore- mentioned Krasnova. The palace of the old General Staff was also built nearby, according to the design of Russian architect Vasily Baumgar- ten, and the building of the Min- istry of Transport was designed by Svetozar Jovanović. All four build- ings are exceptionally monumental and stylistically unified, with rich ap- plications of architectural and deco- rative plaster. Similarly to the intersection with Nemanjina Street, the final part of the street, towards the “Mostar” junc- tion, also gradually emerged as a state administrative zone. The building of the then Ministry of Social Policy and Public Health was erected in 1933, according to the project of Dimitri- je M. Leko, while the building of the Federal Interior Ministry, designed by Slovenian architect Ludwig To- mori as a clear example of socialist realist architecture, was built after World War II. The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia and the City of Belgrade Secretariat for Culture. Protection of Cultural Monuments has for years implemented the educational project “Heritage for Children”. Multiple years of project development led to the producing of a mobile app and the creation of the trivia quiz “I know how to preserve Belgrade”.
