said unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.” The word is certainly accept able as we think of the physical sense. We like to speak of a believer who has passed away as “going home to be with the Lord.” “Passed away” is a euphemism, use of a mild term instead of a stronger, more realistic one. Q. La Puente, Calif. — “My husband and I are both born-again believers and attend church every Sunday. I believe that Sunday should be a day of rest and should be observed very strictly with no yard work, or golf, etc. But my husband disagrees: He says he thinks that will drive our children away from us. I feel very strongly about the matter but if I am wrong, I ’m willing to concede. Will you help me?” A. A wonderful spirit is shown in this letter. We wish that all family problems could be handled in the
Version to save a person and to help him on the road to sanctification. It isn’t so much a question of under standing difficult passages as it is actually following what we do un derstand. There is no translation to day that for dignity of expression and for beauty of phraseology which can compare with the King James Version. Q. Monterey, Calif. — “I would, like an explanation of Luke 14:26. It says, ‘I f any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.’ ” A. No doubt it is the word hate that creates the problem. This is in the light of the fact that we are com manded that we should not hate any one. God hates sin and so should we, while, of course, loving the sinner. The word in this context in the ori ginal really means love less. The Lord wants us to give Him our all, surrendering everything to Him. In all things He should have the pre eminence. Everything upon the earth should be loved less than we love the Lord Jesus Christ. Q. Fort Casey, Arlz. — “Why is there difference in the skins of people ? Did these originate back with Adam or "after the flood?” A. Most Bible scholars believe that the colors of skins began with Noah, after the flood. There is no Scrip ture or anthropological basis, how ever, on which to be dogmatic. It seems to be clear that in many in stances these things are conditioned by geographical factors. Q. San Diego.Calif. — “When a person dies, should we vise the word ‘died’ or 'passed away’? Did Jesus recog nize death or use that word?” A. Yes, He did several times. In John 11:14 we read, “Then Jesus
