sif, known as the roof of Serbia, where you’re awaited by an unfor- gettable holiday. The world suddenly resembles the best pictures of your Instagram friend who shoots such powerful photos, and ev- erything smells like an adventure. The tourist centre and main re- sort is located at an altitude of 1,780 metres above sea-level. There are five-star hotels, regular rooms, apartments, villas, excursion cen- tres... It is as colourful as everything else on Kopaonik. Here the streets are always packed and lively – from seven in the morning, when the first skiers head for the ski lifts, just an hour after those for whom skiing is not a top priority return from their nocturnal revels. And whichever option you choose, no one will give you a funny look – you’re in the right place for precisely the kind of good time you’ve imagined. And the winter party on this moun- tain lasts for a full five months! Skiers can take advan-

tage of a total of 60 kilome- tres of arranged slopes for Alpine and Nordic skiing. Everyone queues for the ski lifts – serious skiers who don’t fear even the deepest snow, and beginners who, with the help of instructors, are learning the first and most basic element of ski- ing – how to stop yourself. If you don’t have your own skis or equipment, you can rent everything you need, and the prices are more than affordable. That’s because once you stand on your skis, you’re no longer missing out on this pleasure. From the cable car lifts you can see everyone, most

SLOPES Kopaonik is Serbia’s favourite ski re- sort, a claim supported by the fact that 15,000 skiers bought their ski passes as soon as the season opened. You are awaited on Kopa- onik by 60km of tailored ski slopes: around 20 blue or light trails, 11 me- dium-difficulty red trails and six very tough black trails for experts. Two slopes even work at night. The Small Lake trail is for those who are less ex- perienced, offering them a descent of 550 metres, while there is also the 1300-metre-long Karaman Ridge trail. For those just learning to ski, there are six different ski schools staffed by 250 instructors.

of them are skiers, but there are also those without any equipment who’re heading for Pančić’s Peak, at an elevation of 2,017m/asl. This place provides unbelievable views that simply take one’s breath away. And when your breath returns you can choose between the perfect descent, which is different every time, or mulled wine and a few hours of breathing in the clean air at one of the restaurants or café-bars located beside the slopes. There is also a snow park, which is a special place of fun for all those who enjoy freestyle ski- ing and snowboarding. This is the largest fun park of its kind in the region. You can also go sledging, use the zip-line etc. And how do you like the idea of swimming in a pool with a constant water temperature of 29 degrees? And that pool is out- doors and surrounded by snow? You can do that. As you swim, in front of you, lies the Valley of Sports, from where the ski lifts depart and where the experience is incredible. And before you even think of making your final descent from Kopaonik, you will already have good reason to return in March, be- cause – just as the Ski Season Opening Party launches everything – at the season’s end you will be awaited on Kopaonik by the Mu- sic Week festival, which is renowned for featuring concerts by the region’s most famous names in music. This a real treat for the end of the season, when the sun starts getting hotter, but the snow still sprays out from under your skis. And it is around that time, in early April, when Kopaonik’s win- ter story comes to an end. And summer? That’s a special story of its own, because this national park and nature reserve has even more to offer. But we’ll leave that for some other time...
