5 CERN It goes without saying that this is the place where historic scientific experiments are conducted at the world’s largest particle physics laboratory. The CERN visitor centre offers tours of parts of the facility, with guides explaining the mind-bending science in more digestible terms. There are also two museum exhibitions covering the facility and its research. One of them explains the current practical applications of CERN’s work, while the other goes into detail regarding the particle accelerator and the hunt for the Higgs boson. PATEK PHILIPPE MUSEUM The star of Patek Philippe Museum is an amazing exhibition of musical automata, watches and portrait miniatures dating from the 1500s to the 1900s, most of which were created in Geneva and Switzerland. However, you can also track the origins of the Patek Philippe company, which was set up in 1845 through a partnership between watchmakers Antoni Patek from Poland and Adrien Philippe from France. The ground floor boasts reconstructions of workbenches featuring all of the instruments required to make a timepiece, while you can even see a watchmaker working in a workshop.
