reclaimed land to the north of the Old Town. This garden took the place of an old wooden harbour and was enhanced a few years later, in 1862, when Mont Blanc Bridge was completed on the west side. The garden’s centrepiece attraction is a fountain that was cast at a foundry in Val d’Osne, France, in 1862. The park’s curving lanes radiate out from this monument, reaching the promenade where you can take a photo of the Jet d’Eau and contemplate with views of the lake.

the product of a wave of construction that was initiated by the King of Sardinia in 1786. The townscape was modelled on Nice, which was also Italian at the time, and the Italian accent endures in its palazzos, the Baroque Holy Cross Church and rows of painted townhouses with wooden shutters. It comes as no surprise that Carouge is often dubbed “La Cité Sarde”, the Sardinian City. With a leisurely ambience, Carouge is rich in handicraft shops, vintage boutiques and antiques dealers, while a market operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Place de Marché.
