SAINT SAVA TEMPLE Hram Svetog Save danas je sa svo- jim velelepnim kupolama impresivan simbol Beograda, ali je ideja o hramu koji bi bio podignut na mestu gde su spaljene mošti Svetog Save, osnivača Srpske pravoslavne crkve, rođena još davne 1879. Kasnije je došlo saznanje da mošti svetitelja najverovatnije ni- su spaljene na tom mestu i neki će baš tome pripisati lošu sreću koja je pra- tila izgradnju hrama. Naime, izgrad- nja je zvanično počela 1935, a onda se desio Drugi svetski rat, pa vreme vla- davine komunizma, pa cepkanje ne- kad velike zemlje na komadiće, a ne- dovršeni hram je za to vreme služio i kao parking i kao magacin. Tek počet- kom novog veka, baš u trenutku kad se oporavljala od bombardovanja, Sr- bija dobija duhovni centar i, isposta- viće se, najveći pravoslavni hram na Balkanu. The Temple of St. Sava, with its magnificent domes, has become an impressive symbol of Belgrade, but the idea of erecting a tem- ple on the site where the remains of Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, were burned by Turks dates back to 1879. It was later revealed that the saint’s relics probably weren’t even burned at this place, and that some would attribute this to the bad luck that followed the construc- tion of the temple. Specifically, construc- tion officially started in 1935, but then came the outbreak of World War II, then the peri- od of communist rule, then the dissolution of the once great country, and during that entire period the unfinished temple served as parking and a warehouse... It was only at the beginning of the new century, just as the country was recovering from bombardment,
